Motorola has launched an entry level phone, Motofone, to tap the rural market in India. The GSM version of the black and white handset would be available with a bundled offer from BSNL at a price of Rs 1,650. Airtel has launched the Enhanced Data Rate for Global Evolution network in Nashik. Nagur, Aurangabad and Goa circles have also seen the simultaneous launch. The EDGE network offers the customers speed of 100 kbph. (From Business Standard)

Motorola is in discussions with Telecom operators to provide network and equipment for offering WiMAX services (high-speed Internet access over a wireless connection). Motorola will design networks and provide customer premises equipment (CPEs) and handhelds. Indian market is forecasted to grow from current 2 million to 30 million by year 2010.
